4month check-up

Punk had her 4month well-baby checkup last week, even though she was 4months, 3weeks old. Whoops.

She weighed 15lbs 13oz, which shot her up to the 77th percentile for weight (up from about 59th)!
She was 26 inches tall (88th percentile)! Holy tall baby! No wonder her footies are too tight!

Her reflux is improving and she is desperately trying to become more independent. She now will arch her back and scream if you are trying to do something she doesn't like (try to rock her to sleep, hold her close, put her in the car seat). She makes screeches and fake coughs. She can blow rasperries, and sometimes will do them in imitation of us! (She is so smart.)

At her appointment, the pedi noticed that her hip adductor muscles were really tight (it is hard to push her legs apart) and referred us for a hip ultrasound to make sure her hips were not abnormal in some way. We had the ultrasound today and unofficially, her hips are normal. Thank goodness! We are meeting with an orthopedist to ask about the limited range of leg movement on Monday, though.

She is getting so so so big! She will be 5 months old tomorrow!!

Milestones (aka The End of an Era)

So remember when I said I would probably be swaddling my kid until she was five, because it was the only way she ever got any sleep? (Yeah, I even swaddled for naps.) And umm, did you ever hear anyone say that it's impossible for babies to roll from back to belly when they are swaddled tightly?

LIES. BOTH LIES.

So my dear sweet Little Punk started screaming last night from her bed. Awful muffled screams through the baby monitor. We went in to check, and she was perfectly swaddled, yet face down in the bed. We hoped it was a fluke, flipped her over, got her back to sleep. An hour later? Yeah, a repeat. Ulp.

I had imagined a nice, gentle weaning of the swaddle in the next month or so. Heck, we had just bought three more large-size Swaddle-Mes. JUST bought. As in mere DAYS ago. Alas, this was not to be, and we had to ditch the swaddle Cold Turkey at 9:30 last night.

The good news is that once she is asleep, she's pretty much sticking to her usual sleeping patterns (she woke up one extra time but was able to go back to sleep with some patting). The bad news? Umm... getting her to sleep is HARD. Without the swaddle, she always wakes up when placed in the crib no matter HOW asleep she is in your arms. Always.

Poor thing, she's got to ditch the swaddle AND learn to put herself to sleep all in one week!
This is going to be a looooong couple of nights.

But she's so dang big and cute!

big girl!

Busy Busy

It's been a busy couple of days around here. Little Punk spends a lot of time rolling from her back to her belly and we're pretty sure she has Abs of Steel by now. She's been doing a lot of laughing and has really gotten the giggles over raspberries on her belly. Speaking of, she's starting to blow raspberries, too!

A friend sent us a custom-made mei tai and Punk and I have enjoyed taking long walks around the neighborhood before it gets too dark. I zip us up in one of my hoodies and away we go! It was raining today, though, so we did our mei tai walking at the mall where I had my first HellBucks beverage in over a year! Mmmm, pumpkin spice latte...

She spent a couple of days to a week getting up at 3am for an extra feed but she's skipped it again the last couple of days. Hopefully that trend keeps up because the solid sleep is nice, I'm not going to lie. She's also becoming quite the Chow Baby.

She is just getting so freaking cute I can't even stand it!

Four Months Old!

My little punk turned four months old yesterday.

my 4-month-old and me

Where does the time go? I can't believe it's been four months since she was born, since the midwife and the doula almost had a heart attack when she almost dropped right down on the birthing center floor. She came out with drama and has been drama ever since - it makes for a busy four months!

This girl wants to MOVE. She used to be content to chill on her belly or try to roll onto her back. Now she just wants to go somewhere, doing "blanket swimming" until she's pivoted herself around in a full 360 and is just frustrated. She is starting to learn how to roll from her back to her belly. Her current obsession is sitting up. She wants to sit up all the time. No more reclining, no more bouncy seat, no more swing, no more car seat. Just sitting upright. All upright all the time.

This girl wants to SEE THE WORLD. Her favorite position is any position involving looking out, which of course usually means sitting upright on my lap looking out at everything around her. She loves to look out the window, she gets excited when she sees animals, she talks to other babies, she studies her hands and feet.

This girl wants to EXPLORE. With her hands, with her mouth, it doesn't matter. She wants to know what's up.

This girl is getting SO BIG!!
